Rossini overtures are always full of zest and bubble. The bright Haffner Symphony was composed in less than a fortnight! Two very English works were included; and the majestic power of Beethoven's Emperor Concerto was a fitting finale to this Gala Evening, played by a pianist well-known for his Beethoven interpretations.

The Old Barn Orchestra (the Orchestra for Medway and Maidstone) was celebrating its 80th birthday. Many music teachers play in the orchestra, which has an impressive history of imaginative programming.
