Popular since its premiere in Milan in 1832, this charming comedy has delighted audiences throughout the world. The setting is a Basque village in the nineteenth century. Nemorino, a peasant, decides to take the magic elixir, sold to him by a quack doctor, so that he can win the heart of wealthy landowner Adina. To spite Nemorino, she has announced her marriage to a sergeant. The score is full of memorable tunes, including Adina's Prendi and Nemorino's Una furtiva lagrima, and this production was accompanied by a seven-piece orchestra. A comic opera that amused everyone.

Described in The Times as "a visionary touring company", Opera Box has for 18 years toured extensively presenting high quality, complete, fully-staged opera at theatres and outdoor venues throughout the UK. Many of the company's singers have worked for the major British opera companies, including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, ENO, WNO, Opera North and Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
