Bryan Gipps' family moved to the village of Egerton in the heart of Kent in 1956. Egerton House has been the family's home since then. Bryan comes from a family of professional musicians, and gained a Music Exhibition to The King’s School, Canterbury. He entered The Royal Academy of Music in 1969 and, after qualifying, he spent 28 years in full-time teaching, including 18 as a public school Director of Music. At the RAM Bryan studied the violin under the Senior Violin Professor David Martin, after playing in the National Youth Orchestra. He has performed in such venues as The Royal Albert Hall and The Festival Hall. Bryan studied the organ under Dr Allan Wicks and Dr Douglas Hopkins and held the Sir John Goss Exhibition from the RCO whilst at the RAM. He gained his Fellowship from Trinity College of Music, London in 1975. He has presented many recitals here and abroad and gave the first London performance of Dr Arthur Wills’ Organ Concerto. Bryan was twice awarded one of only four places on the Conductors’ Course at the RAM. which enabled him to study under Maurice Miles. During his teaching career, he conducted choirs in most of the major English cathedrals, as well as on television, radio and CD. He has conducted Operatic and Orchestral Societies as well as Youth Orchestras. This year he is bringing The Old Barn Orchestra (the orchestra for Medway and Maidstone) to Egerton to present the Gala Symphony Concert. |
